You've added /etc/init.d/heartbeat stop || true to preinst. 3 comments: - if /etc/init.d/heartbeat doesn't exist (e.g. if this is the first time the heartbeat package gets installed), this will fail. - please don't use /etc/init.d/heartbeat but use invoke-rc.d - please read the debian policy and the developers reference.
