Hi Frans,
Cann't the Installer for a given version of debian check if the mirror it is
connecting to is having packages for that version of debian or not and warn
the user. Thats the reason I assigned it to installer team.

There is nothing the installer team can do about this, sorry. Maybe the
mirror people can help out.
