I just browsed through the list of bugs for libldap2 and found:

libnss-ldap and pam-ldap extreemly slow if ca-certicates installed
We indeed have ca-certicates installed and libldap2 (in the default package)
seems not to use the <hash>.0 link in contrast to the libraries from the
openldap 2.3 package.
