Unfortuntely I had to drop esd because I needed Flash Player working for
another project.
(Adobe Flash player is *really* picky about sound---and it took priority
over Gnome this time.)
Libao sounds like the way to go for /usr/bin/play, so thanks for moving
it, but I won't need to test an early version. Hopefully this bug can
be closed soon.

P.S., from an aesthetic point of view, I still like having /usr/bin/play
a script, but I can't argue with removing the overhead of another shell.
