Eliminating spurious wakeups reduces power usage. See http://linuxpowertop.org for a tool that measures wakeups and reports CPU C-state statistics.
This patch against 4.2.4 http://cvs.fedora.redhat.com/viewcvs/*checkout*/rpms/ntp/devel/ntp-4.2.4-sleep.patch?rev=1.1 eliminates the wakeups by computing the timeout needed before the next periodic task needs to be performed. -- [EMAIL PROTECTED]
