Package: pmount
Version: 0.9.13-1+b1
Followup-For: Bug #411772

I think I bumped into the very same problem, at least the symptoms are the same.

I can reproduce the problem when I have CONFIG_SYSFS_DEPRECATED=n in kernel
config,
which is default (see "Create deprecated sysfs files" in "General setup").
I just compiled a new version with CONFIG_SYSFS_DEPRECATED=y (as debian stock
kernel)
and it pmount is working fine.

Here is a short description of CONFIG_SYSFS_DEPRECATED from kernel help:

This option creates deprecated symlinks such as the
"device"-link, the <subsystem>:<name>-link, and the
"bus"-link. It may also add deprecated key in the
uevent environment.
None of these features or values should be used today, as
they export driver core implementation details to userspace
or export properties which can't be kept stable across kernel
releases.
If enabled, this option will also move any device structures
that belong to a class, back into the /sys/class heirachy, in
order to support older versions of udev.
If you are using a distro that was released in 2006 or later,
it should be safe to say N here.

So this is 2007, and pmount still needs it?

I am also confused by documentation about /sys/block/sda/removable (see pmount
manual)
which contains 0 (false?!), while the drive is USB, removable. I experience
this with
both CONFIG_SYSFS_DEPRECATED selections.
