Alsaconf doesn't behave very smart when it detects more than one card. You can select one of the found cards and it will become the *only* card mentioned in /etc/modprobe.d/sound. The problem is, even with index=0 set, it happens that one of the other cards becomes the system default. I think it would be smarter to insert all found cards in /etc/modprobe.d/sound and set the one with index=0 the user wishes to use as default.
