Do these steps:

apt-get source mozilla-firefox
apt-get build-dep mozilla-firefox
cd mozilla-firefox-1.0.2
vi debian/rules (change the OPTFLAG variable by removing the 2 from
-O2)
fakeroot debian/rules binary

That should build you packages. It will take a *while*... on my 2.6GHz
P4 it takes upwards of an hour.

Well, I tried it. I guess I need a new computer. I finally killed the build process after 8 1/2 hrs when I was down to 14M of harddrive space remaining and my 128M swap drive was max'd which practically brought my sx164 to a standstill. Thanks for the instructions but someone else with an alpha computer will have to try it.

p.s. during the compiling process, I noticed the -O2 option was still
being used. Also, the alpha architecture wasn't in the if/then routines
in the debian/rules file under the OPTFLAG section.
