Package: potrace

Severity: normal

The xfig backend does not set correctly the depths of the objects, what
makes some paths go to the background during editing. This problem was
discussed in a thread in the Patch Tracker of the potrace project at
SourceForge [1]. The upstream author published a patch for fixing the
problem [2] and when I asked him whether a new version will be released
soon, he answered:

"I don't have any releases planned for the very near future. Potrace is
pretty stable at the moment. The XFig backend is not very heavily used
from what I can tell; you might be the first person who has ever asked
about it. So for now, this change will be released only as a patch."

I am hereby asking the Debian maintainer to apply the said path to the
Debian package. Note that it applies correctly to the 1.7 version (at least
the relevant part for src/backend_xfig.c), although it would be good if one
could take the opportunity and upgrade the package to the newest 1.8 version
(cf Bug #425543)

For users reading this bug report: I prepared a 1.8-0.1 version of the
package containing the patch proposed here and put it at a private
apt-getable repository [3].
