Package: vim-gui-common Version: 1:7.1-000+1 Severity: normal Dear vim maintainers,
It seems when opening a file with the right-click mouse menu, choosing "Open with 'GVim Text Editor'", gvim can't handle a filename with non-ascii unicode characters in it. The launched gvim is showing the filename as some strange characters that look like double-encoded UTF-8 string (I use a UTF-8 locale) and therefore think it's a new file. I encountered this problem with Chinese file names, but I've tested with "é.txt" and can reproduce it. Using "gvim <filename>" in X terminal or ":e <filename>" inside already launched gvim can handle these unicode names without problem. I think the right click menu is provided by the "Exec=gvim -f %U" command in /usr/share/applications/gvim.desktop, so I am filing this bug against vim-gui-common.
