I like this suggestion, but I had to read it three times to see that you actually mentioned putting these commands in a file. Perhaps this could be a little bit more explicit? For newbies, it might also be useful to say a word or two about how to create a useful name for the file (I personally add ".local" to all my own files in /etc/modprobe.d, for example).
Also, I'm afraid /usr/share/doc/module-init-tools/FAQ is not a visible enough location for this information. Perhaps even a patch against the modprobe.conf manual proper could be considered? /* era */ -- If this were a real .signature, it would suck less.
