Package: pidentd
Version: 3.0.19.ds1-3
Severity: normal

pidentd used to create its pidfile inside /var/run/identd (i.e.
~identd/), which was of course writable to identd. After problems
on Ubuntu-style tmpfs set-ups it has been moved to /var/run itself.
Unfortunately only root has the power to create files there... so
every time pidentd tries to run it logs
s_open("/var/run/identd.pid", O_WRONLY): Permission denied
...and dies.
As a workaround I can of course edit /etc/identd.conf and set
server:pid-file = "/var/tmp/identd.pid"
but it's hardly a great solution.
(By the way: feel free to stop supporting upgrades from Potato or
whatever it is that needs the pidentd-des transition package!)
