Trying to install a complex application suite (LSC DataGrid Server 4.4) which is base don Pacman and Python scripting, I discovered that the platform.processor() return string is empty instead of holding CPU information. system Linux release 2.6.17-hexe-smp version #1 SMP Wed Nov 15 13:30:09 CET 2006 node MMM machine x86_64 processor Same for Etch in i686; and even for a k7 Sarge machine.
