I was hit by that bug, too, and it is fixed for me in 1.2.30. (It's even listen in the CHANGES file (for 1.2.30pre1).
Now I only have to find out if it is a icewm or some xaw bug that
WM_HINT's initial state set to iconic in my xaw program has no effect
in what icewm does with it...
