After changing the theme of icedove and restarting icedove, displaying of most

only an "aptitude reinstall icedove" helps.
It doesn't matter from which to which theme you change. As soon as you change a
theme only a reinstall of icedove helps.
Are you running icedove as root?

no! for sure not... just as a normal user. would that make a difference?
so far i found out, that changing the fonts in preferences\display\fonts leads
to the exact same behaviour...
