G'day again, One more thing I forgot to mention.
The other problem with udev is there is a delay between a module being loaded and the device nodes being created. This means you cannot just modprobe in a module then immediately access it's devices. This meand mdadm-raid needs a delay to give udev time to create things like the /dev/sda devices after loading the sata_sil module.
