That JavaScript is quite old, I'm not surprised it does not work properly with modern browsers. Can you please check if the same problem appears when using the online version of the book available at http://caml.inria.fr/pub/docs/oreilly-book/html/index.html. That said I'm not really a Javascript hacker, so patches which fix the problem are really welcome.
