I'm not enough knowledgeable or experienced in packaging: I did some backporting for woody and sarge in the past, but that's all. I'm afraid you would spend *more* time in reviewing my packages before uploading them, than in maintaining fbpanel yourself... If you need help, why haven't you filed a RFH bug about fbpanel?
