Hm, reading the code, I have no idea how that might happen. Is there any
other message before that one? If not, then could you run cruft like this:

$ sudo bash
# script messages
# CRUFT_DEBUG=2 cruft -r report
# exit
# exit

and then mail me the output of "last -n 100 messages"
