I have a couple of scripts on my Sevrers an never seen this problem.

Since I get daily nearly 400 messages from "cron" on my servers using
"courier-mta" it can not be a "courier" issue.

How does "mail" invoke ${SENDMAIL}?

Maybe, but I can not reconstruct this bug under Lenny (Devel-Station)
and Etch (Server + normal Workstations)
