Package: sun-java5-plugin
Version: 1.5.0-10-3

I'm using the Opera web browser. Although sun-java5-plugin doesn't
overtly say that it supports all NPP-compatible browsers, I'm guessing
it does from the list of browsers it Depends: on. However, that list
doesn't inlucde Opera, so I'm obliged to install some other web browser
just to get a plugin to find out if it works with Opera ...

It would in any case be simpler to Depend on web-browser, the virtual
package for all web browsers (if only to save you the need to maintain
an ever-growing, always out-of-date list of web browsers); and,
arguably, it may be worth only Recommending it, or even Suggesting it,
since applications which are not web browsers - e.g. authoring tools -
could as readilly make use of it.

There would also be some sense to having virtual packages for plugins,
such as java-npp-plugin, flash-npp-plugin, etc., which are Provided by
the particular plugins, so that browsers can Recommend or Suggest the
virtual package for each plugin, rather than an |-list of the known
implementations of each plugin. The java-npp-plugin would then Provide
the java-plugin virtual package, and likewise for others; similarly, a
genuinely xul-dependant plugin could Provide *-xul-plugin, which would
Provide *-plugin; mutatis mutandis,

        Eddy.
