I see no reason for this bug to be assigned to aptitude. Moreover, as you give no details except vague messages about what you experienced, I do'nt think that aptitude maintainer can do anything about this. This bug will either rot in the BTS or just be closed without "solution". As you mentioned VmWare, please note that it is known that VmWare version 5 doesn't boot 2.6.21 any longer.
