Hi Chris, you could find an localized lightning package here:
http://www.thomas-wassong.de/lightning/lightning-0.5.l10n.xpi It's the package from Jean-Christoph added with the localization-files from mozilla. I just copied them from the german lightning package, and it also contains the other 21 localizations. I hope it helps you. This is just a hack. A debian-package of lightning would be really great.
