This is an old "bug", but I am not sure that this is the best solution to that problem. I use rdiff-backup in netbooted LiveCD environment with a local hard drive mount. I am trying to get rdiff-backup to do scheduled backup and restore on the mounted hard drive directory, but it fails on restoring incremental giving the "No space left on device" error. I have plenty of freespace, so I can only assume that rdiff-backup is filling the /tmp directory which, in my DebianLive environment, is running entirely in RAM.
However, I suspect the proper alternative would be for me to remount the /tmp folder and/or add swap space... to the local hard drive. Just my opinion though.
