I haven't been able to reproduce this or to figure out if this is really a problem with OfflineIMAP. On my own system, I don't see fd leakage in OfflineIMAP. Can you check a few things for me: 1) Run offlineimap -1. Right before it crasshes, ls -l /proc/pid/fd where pid is OfflineIMAP's pid. Let's see what files it has open. 2) Verify via lsof or some other tool that your system isn't out of file descriptors globally. A reboot could fix that as well.
