Hello *, I can confirm the descibed behaviour on ALL releases fro, Sarge to Sid.

I like to see this function multi-threated...
Even if mutt is open and your mailfolder contain e.g. 10000 Messages,
mutt is blocked while it try to reindex the messages...

Known behaviour since Sarge (where I currently write this message)
