Personally I prefer not to generate configuration with debconf. There are a couple of reasons for that. 1) It is hard to select the variables that should be set using debconf. 2) It is quite fault prone. To get everything fully working it requires quite a lot of code. 3) Supporting this make the configuration more limited. So I do not think I will do this. If you want to distribute configuration on all machines, you could take a look at dpsyco or cfengine instead, that do just that.
