This is not specific to screen - it is documented in ld.so(1).
I know that it is not specific to screen(1), but since screen is
sometimes(!) installed set-uid, it may modify these variables or not.
This is especially confusing if you have two or three installations of
screen(1) at the same time.
It would be redundant documentation, but an average user will notice
that these environment variables get removed from the environment when
screen(1) is called. That's why I expected the screen(1) man page to
mention this "feature". I didn't know about ld.so at that time, and I
think that being _helpful_ is more important for documentation than
being _short_.
