was heard to say:
Package: tex-common
Version: 1.9
Severity: normal
Error message is as follows: "aptitude: symbol lookup error:
aptitude: undefined symbol: _ZN9pkgPolicyD2Ev"
...which is very likely not a problem in tex-common, but in aptitude.
Unfortunately we don't know, which version you used and I didn't find
that problem in the BTS. Please post the output of:
99% of the time, this is caused by a locally compiled aptitude hanging
out in $PATH that needs to be removed or recompiled against the current
apt. I'd run "which aptitude" as a first step in diagnosis.

News after a couple upgrades: package tex-common does not report errors
anymore. I can't imagine why. But aptitude still has thrown that
undefined symbol message. However, everything seems to work fine, so
it's ok for me :).
In case it helps,
debian:~# which -a aptitude
/usr/bin/aptitude
installed from package aptitude of testing distribution:
+++-===================================-===================================-============================
ii aptitude 0.4.4-4 terminal-based apt frontend
