This does, in fact, seem possible, as this machine processes several
thousand mails per say and uses RBL and many other DNS-based
techniques in doing so.

So if I set max-cache-entries to a lower value, you'd claim that the
memory use would be capped? I am trying this now and shall see
tomorrow or the day after.
