I've spent some time further analyzing what is going on to cause this bug. 1) The problem only occurs if the SSL server asks for a client certificate
2) The problem occurs when the server times out the HTTP/1.1 keep-alive (after 15 seconds using the current defaults in twisted with the script I sent). 3) From looking at the network traffic with wireshark, it appears that iceweasel attempts to reestablish the connection using SSL v2 after it's been timed out, which is then rejected.
