The `svgatextmode' package recently changed Build-Depends: from
former `linux-kernel-headers' to a new `linux-libc-dev'. Since
the latter isn't available in `etch', but otherwise seems to me
like a more specialized substitute for the former in `sid', I
suggest the dependency to be written as `linux-libc-dev |
linux-kernel-headers' instead, so that the package will be able
to build on etch.
The modified package seems to build on `etch' and work properly.
