I have the same problem. I tried to find the bug with 'strace -o iptraf.txt iptraf' but the strace log don't show any problem related to the bug. I made an "apt-get source iptraf" and compiled the Iptraf by hand. The bug persisted. I think this error is a bug in Iptraf code.
