The issue here is that it's not entirely reasonable to expect users to understand the severities Debian uses for bug reports, especially given that they are common natural language terms. A tool like reportbug-ng which makes it easier for users to submit bugs is inevitably going to be used by inexperienced users who may even be reporting their first bug in a piece of software and are using the tool to help handhold them through the process. Doing this well is important not only from the point of view of making life easier for maintainers but also for the users who will hopefully find that the response to their bug reports is better if the reports are well formed. As well as the explanations approach suggested earlier in the log another thing that's been tried to deal with this problem is to make access to RC bug severities only availiable via user configuration of the program - without explicit configuration the user would be able to select only non-RC bug severites. -- "You grabbed my hand and we fell into it, like a daydream - or a fever."
