I've been having autofs unmount problems with *one* of my machines, but not all of them. I'm using short timeouts (5 seconds) and executable maps. Debug shows what appear to be unmount calls coming through when the timeouts expire, but they seem to be failing. This is using the autofs and kernel from etch on i386.
What I have found is that upgrading to the version of autofs from unstable (building a local backport), the problem goes away and things work fine. Downgrading again brings the bug back reliably, so I can help debug if you need. -- Steve McIntyre, Cambridge, UK.
