Package: openct
Version: 0.6.11-1
Severity: important
I'm running debian lenny/sid, using a cryptoflex eGate USB token for
authentication using libpam-p11. This setup worked fine with openct
and libopenct1 0.6.12-1.
When i upgraded the openct packages today to 0.6.14-1, PAM
authentication attempts after removing and re-inserting the USB key
began to fail.
To be clear: with the USB device and smartcard all left in the machine
from boot, PAM works fine. When the USB key is removed and
re-inserted, subsequent authentication attempts don't even bother
prompting me for a password, they just fail immediately.
During re-insertion of the device, these messages get written to
/var/log/syslog:
Sep 14 14:59:46 squeak ifdhandler[4844]: Unable to open USB device /dev/: Is a
directory
Sep 14 14:59:46 squeak ifdhandler[4844]: usb:/dev/: initialization failed
(driver egate)
Sep 14 14:59:46 squeak ifdhandler[4844]: unable to open reader egate usb /dev/
I've rolled back for the moment to 0.6.11-1 (etch's version) of openct
and libopenct1, and basic functionality is restored, though the
following lines get written to /var/log/syslog upon device
re-insertion:
Sep 14 15:17:38 squeak ifdhandler[5462]: Unable to open USB device
/proc/bus/usb/002/007: No such file or directory
Sep 14 15:17:38 squeak ifdhandler[5462]: usb:/proc/bus/usb/002/007:
initialization failed (driver egate)
Sep 14 15:17:38 squeak ifdhandler[5462]: unable to open reader egate usb
/proc/bus/usb/002/007
I do not have /proc/bus/usb mounted, because i'm under the impression
that it is deprecated in favor of sysfs. Dunno if that matters in
this case.
If i can help to diagnose further, please let me know. at the moment,
i'm pinning openct and libopenct1 back to the etch versions of those
packages, which i'd rather not have to do.
Sorry that I haven't narrowed down the cause of this yet, but the
failure is pretty severe (locked out of machine).
Thanks, as always, for keeping these packages in debian.
Regards,
