I just noticed that cperl-mode is still 4.23 in Sarge now, but also that 5.0 is available upstream at http://math.berkeley.edu/~ilya/software/emacs/cperl-mode.el.5.0.bz2
I just installed it, and it appears to be cleaner than 4.23 in many respects. Perhaps I should file a separate wishlist bug on this?
