if you are using PATA you'd need to use at least 2.6.22,
better use 2.6.23-rc5 you can find appropriate sources
on buildserver. use deb-src deblines:

K3b does not cause kernel panic on 2.6.22. I had not upgraded due to
problems compiling the nvidia driver which now seems fixed. Apologies
for wasting your time. Bug report closed :)
I still find it strange that k3b was the only application to cause the
kernel panic. The 2.6.21 driver worked flawlessly with all other apps I
have installed including k9copy.
