I don't think this is right. This is the last commit in the branch, and it doesn't change anything in the code. So the breakage cannot appear here. Either you did not test correctly (did you install the driver and restart X correctly at each step?) or there is a difference between the debian package and the upstream git tree (if you just git clone, build and install, does it work?).
