Hi, I have several users on the same home computer, often leaving sessions open and using KDE's "Switch User" to move between users; for all users, the screen saver is set to "Random". Many times, upon switching to a different user, the CPU consumption goes to either 100% or 100% of one core (of four). Invariably, when this happen, the culprit process is an openGL screensaver running on behalf of the user whose session was exited -- that is, a screen saver running in an X session in a virtual terminal which is not the active virtual terminal. While it is true that the screensaver is nice'd, so any other process who needs the CPU will get it, I see no reason for it to consume so much CPU for no cause whatsoever. It is not without costs (in heat, electricity, and in my case even noise).
