I can't see such messages anywhere, but network-manager does not seem to notice when I flip the RF kill switch on my Thinkpad X60s (ipw3945, iwlwifi-1.1.17 on kernel 2.6.22.9). After enabling the radio interfaces by flipping the hardware switch, I will have to do /etc/init.d/hal restart to get wireless access.
