gs-esp still has huge problems printing anything from pdf. The pdfs are most likely created using Micro$oft tools and are not clean, but gs-esp shouldn't just crash on them. I used pdftk to repair them and converted them to ps using gs-gpl, but still when printing them and converting them to raster on the print server gs-esp just crashes. This is really, really annoying and should be fixed before sarge releases.
