No, it doesn't crash in the latter case. I know that one of the crypto plug-ins (I think OTR) was causing crashes after closing the conversations where more than one encrypted session had taken place, but I don't recall having been hit by this particular bug in a while (weeks, probably even a couple months) whereas I've been seeing crashes on shutdown relatively often (and I usually leave Pidgin open but disconnected, so I don't close it very often).
