The new version of this package (0.0.20071002-1) is on the way to the Debian archives and this version hasn't this problem. This new source package has new python-fontforge binary package and the upload to Debian will go through the NEW queue, therefore appearance of this version will be delayed. For now new package can be found on my apt repository at http://kebil.ghost.lt/debian/pool/fontforge/ .
