I don't think I have asked for expectations, feel free to test it, thanks. As I said I wasn't able to reproduce the problem with that version. Saying that extended colors are provided by a different ABI version of ncurses sounds that one would need to recompile irssi against that different version to be able to reproduce it, or do I get you wrong? I'm not sure if this is a right approach, but given that you leave no hints on how to be able to reproduce it, I've tried the "pretty girly" color codes from urxvt(7) and irssi worked well in my rxvt-unicode, and in xterm with TERM=xterm-88color.
