Package: ipmitool
Version: 1.8.8-3.1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

Plugins for Nagios that check the IPMI devices run with the user and group
nagios.

The IPMI device belong to the user and group root and it is inaccessible to
other :
$ ls -l /dev/ipmi0
crw-rw---- 1 root root 252, 0 2007-09-05 20:39 /dev/ipmi0

Can you, like ttyS0 device, create a "ipmi" group and add IPMI devices to the
"ipmi" group ?
$ ls -l /dev/ipmi0
crw-rw---- 1 root ipmi 252, 0 2007-09-05 20:39 /dev/ipmi0

This way, we can add the nagios user to the ipmi group and enable Nagios plugin
to access to the IPMI devices.

I do not know if this bug report should be sent to package ipmitool or of the
package udev.

Regards.
