Package: etckeeper
Version: 0.1
Severity: important

Hi,

I just installed etckeeper. The installation seems to have gone
smoothly:

------------------------------------------------------------
Selecting previously deselected package etckeeper.
Unpacking etckeeper (from .../archives/etckeeper_0.1_all.deb) ...
[...]
Setting up etckeeper (0.1) ...
------------------------------------------------------------

It didn't ask me any debconf questions at that point.

After the next upgrade (immediately after installation, i.e. I didn't
edit anything in /etc) it told me /etc contains uncommitted files and
asked whether it should commit them. I answered positively.

After that I got:

------------------------------------------------------------
fatal: Not a git repository
Failed to find a valid git directory.
fatal: Not a git repository
run-parts: /etc/etckeeper/pre-apt.d/50uncommitted-changes exited with return

returned an error code (1)
E: Failure running script if [ -x /usr/bin/etckeeper ]; then etckeeper pre-apt;

A package failed to install. Trying to recover:
Press return to continue.
