Hi Elimar
Thanks for your reply.

I have tried what you suggested:

rm /var/lib/alsa/asound.state
/etc/init.d/alsa-utils restart

Results:

"Shutting down ALSA...amixer: Invalid command!
amixer: Invalid command!
done.
Setting up ALSA...done."

After doing this the system volume sound remains almost inaudible.

By inaudible I mean a very low sound volume, but on the alsamixer scale the master volume is Zero.

Also on system shutting down I can see the following error message:

"Shutting down ALSA...amixer: Invalid command!
amixer: Invalid command!"

I have two almost exact installations of Debian Lenny on the some hard drive. On the other installation (let us call it installation B) I did not run the above-mentioned safe-upgrade (which upgraded alsa-base). On installation B the system sound volume remains normal.

I tried to report this bug with the "Bug Report Tool", but when I started the apllication I got this error message:

"Either --appname or --package arguments are required."

From now on I will report any bugs with the tool "reportbug"

Greetings,
JJCale
