Hi, I've just checked with pulseaudio 0.9.6-2 (latest in Debian), and the segfault is gone indeed. It still doesn't actually work though, because of this error message: E: module-alsa-sink.c: Failed to set hardware parameters: Operation not permitted E: module.c: Failed to load module "module-alsa-sink" (argument: "device=hw:0 sink_name=alsa_output.pci_1412_1712_alsa_playback_0"): initialization failed. ... but at least it deals with it a bit more gracefully now ^_^ I've looked in the upstream bug list, and it seems the problem is related to this bug: http://pulseaudio.org/ticket/132 This soundcard is indeed one of those "24-bit only" cards, as shown by ~# aplay -D hw:0 -f cd /dev/urandom Playing raw data '/dev/urandom' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Stereo aplay: set_params:901: Sample format non available According to the bug report pulseaudio has recently been fixed to deal with such cards in the latest 0.9.7 I'm lowering the severity, and will wait patiently until 0.9.7 hits the archive.
