Yes, the current ispell.sl give cryptic error messages when ispell/aspell is
not installed :
* In the *ispell* buffer:
execvp of aspell failed!
* In the echo area:
Ispell crashed!
This two messages give the false impression that aspell/isepll was launched
and crashed.
Paul, could you add a test for the existence of the aspell/spell program in
start_ispell_process and send the warning message Jörg suggests above?

I agree this solution would be better than the Suggests I originally
proposed. And thanks, Rafael, for suggesting the aspell alternative to
ispell.
